XVII. Surprises

I was glad when the day was over and I lay on my bed. The last hours that I had spent with Oscar had been truly hellish. He hadn’t said much, but the wide grin on his face had never disappeared. I knew he had enjoyed making fun of me, and he had practically laughed at me the rest of the day. I cracked my knuckles while thinking back on how much I had wanted to wipe that grin off his face. It was great for my mental condition. He had made me switch from one end to the other that fast. That helped me try to control my condition so much. Not.

Now, I clearly felt I missed a few links in my head. The connections in my brain hadn’t been all linked correctly to each other, a few were loose and another few were connected wrong. It had been a long time since I had been so close to my boundaries, being really hyper-aware of myself and my personality disorder. Psychopathic had been the diagnosis.

If I wanted to, I could act normal, but sometimes it got triggered — by the press, for example. They had annoyed and bothered me for years. It was easy to let myself get dragged away by negative emotions — I could feel them the easiest — but that was always a disaster for my mental health. So, I mostly kept my emotions flat. Just like the press, Oscar could also get under my skin; he sometimes annoyed me to death. He had good moments, but he was unpredictable, which wasn’t good for me.

I sighed. Most likely, I would end up just like my grandfather. Jonathan Stone had always appeared normal, and they had never thought he had a personality disorder, but one day something had gone wrong. His personality had completely turned around over the course of a week, and during that short time, he had gone insane. At the end of that week, he had killed himself before the eyes of the bishop.

Ah well, at least I knew how I’d come to my end.
